Who we are
Strut ("we", "us") is a photo, booking and business assistant for tattoo artists and piercers, and a way for clients to find them. This page says what we collect, why, who else touches it, and how you delete it. We do not sell your information, and we show no ads.
What we collect
- Account: email, name, password (kept only as a salted hash), the handle you pick, your profile, and which kind of account you have.
- Photos: photos you upload. We re-save them without hidden data, so GPS location and camera details are removed. Artists' work photos are edited at the whole-photo level only (crop, colour, logo).
- Bookings and messages: requests, reference photos, notes, chat messages, photos and voice messages inside a chat. Only the client and that artist can open them.
- Consent forms: health answers, signed name, time, IP address and device. They are encrypted and only that artist and that client can open them.
- Artist business records: prices paid, tips, expenses and receipts an artist chooses to log. Only that artist sees them.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. Card numbers go to Stripe's pages and never reach us. We keep a Stripe customer or account id and the status of a plan, deposit or rent payment.
- Phone notices: if you turn them on, the address your browser or phone gives us for sending notices.
- Security: sign-in times and IP addresses, used to stop password guessing and spot odd logins.
- Optional: a calendar link you paste (only busy times are kept), your city text (never GPS), healed-tattoo photos you send, reviews you write.
How we use it
To run the app: sign you in, show an artist's public page, take bookings, send reminders you asked for, edit photos, suggest captions, answer questions in the app, and keep the service safe. We use usage counts to set limits and estimate costs. We do not use your photos or messages to train AI models, and we do not share them for advertising.
AI
Some features send your text or photos to AI services: our photo assistant, captions, the buddy chat, the artist's messages assistant, safety checks, and concept sketches. These run through Anthropic (Claude) and, for sketches, Google. The app says when you are talking to an AI. Consent forms and business records are never sent to AI. The artist stays in charge of every post and booking.
Who else handles it
Our hosting and storage (Google Cloud), payments (Stripe), email (Resend, only for reminders and password resets you ask for), AI services (Anthropic, Google), and push services run by Apple, Google or your browser. They process data for us under their own terms. We share information with the law if legally required.
What other people see
An artist's public page shows the profile, portfolio, flash and reviews the artist chose to make public. Artists can switch their page to private. Clients' names, emails and bookings are seen only by the artist they booked with.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account, with these exceptions: photo-edit drafts (not your portfolio) are deleted after 90 days; consent forms and session or healed photos are deleted after the artist's chosen keep time (3, 5, 7 or 10 years); a booking in an artist's calendar stays as the artist's record of their work, with your name and email removed when you delete your account; and records we must keep for law, tax or fraud.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: Settings, Account and security, Delete my account. It removes your profile, photos, posts, chats, follows and sign-in, and cancels your plan.
- See or export your data, fix it, or ask a question: contact us below. Artists can export their consent records in the app.
- Notices and email: switch them off under Settings, Notifications.
- If you live in California, the EU, UK or elsewhere with privacy laws, you have the rights those laws give you, including access, correction, deletion and objection. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. Contact us to use a right; we reply within the time the law gives.
Children
Strut is for adults. You must be 18 to use it, except that a client under 18 may send a booking request that is marked for a paper form signed by a parent at the shop. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and will delete it if we learn we have.
Security
Passwords are hashed, sessions can be ended, two-step login is available, photo links are signed and expire, and consent forms are encrypted. No service is perfectly secure. If something affecting you goes wrong, we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will say so in the app. The date at the top shows the latest version.
